Nearly two months have passed since the tragic bus accident on the A9 motorway near Leipzig, which claimed four lives. Investigations into the cause of the incident are still ongoing, with preliminary findings yet to be revealed to the public, a spokesperson for the Leipzig Public Prosecutor's Office indicated. It could potentially take weeks before a definitive conclusion is reached.

On March 27, a double-decker Flixbus, carrying 54 passengers, veered off the road and overturned on the A9. Among the four fatalities were a 47-year-old Polish woman, a 43-year-old Ukrainian woman, a 20-year-old woman from Indonesia who resided in Berlin, and a 19-year-old woman from Bavaria. There were 34 other injured passengers, some of whom suffered severe injuries.

The bus had set out from Berlin and was en route to Zurich. A majority of the passengers were not German citizens - 18 held German passports, while the remainder hailed from more than 20 countries like Peru, New Zealand, China, Canada, and the United States. The accident occurred approximately two hours post-departure, between the Wiedemar junction and the Schkeuditzer Kreuz. As per initial findings, there was no other vehicle involved.

The bus driver, a 62-year-old man, is being investigated by the public prosecutor's office. He faces charges of negligent manslaughter and negligent bodily harm. The spokesperson for the investigating authorities declined to provide details about the interrogation. They also stated that the driver had adhered to all driving and rest times mandated by the bus company.

A comprehensive accident analysis report is being compiled to better understand the cause of the accident. This report will determine the bus's speed during impact, explore potential contributing factors, interview witnesses on the bus, and examine the accident vehicle for possible technical defects.
