- Inquest into Graffiti Displaying the "Z" Mark in the Black Forest Region
After multiple instances of the allegedly infamous Z-symbol appearing in graffiti around Hausach, a town in Black Forest's Ortenau district, authorities have initiated criminal probes. This was affirmed by a representative from Offenburg's police headquarters. The graffiti was identified early Monday morning. Originally, the "Z" symbol was employed by Russian troops, representing their invasion of Ukraine.
The individuals responsible for the Hausach graffiti remain undisclosed, as per police declarations. An eyewitness reportedly spotted a man adorning a building facade during the night.
Incident at the refugee lodging
Remarkably, that same night, a fire erupted at a refugee housing unit within the municipality. Fortunately, the fire was swiftly put out, and no one was harmed. The police spokesperson admitted that detectives are not presently assuming a link between the "Z" markings on the structures and the incident at the refugee housing. The majority of the residents at the lodge are not Ukrainians.
Woodpile inferno
Subsequently, another incident took place in the Kinzig valley community: a woodpile caught fire along a forest trail, as reported by police. The fire department was dispatched to the scene. In light of speculations that it was arson, investigators are examining any possible link to the weekend's incident.
The eyewitness described the man near the building as carrying a lit torch, which could be a concerning detail given the subsequent fires. The investigation into the woodpile fire is also exploring any potential connection to the "Z" graffiti or the refugee housing incident.
