- Inmates arrested for alleged fraud in the care sector
Due to suspicion of professional fraud, two individuals are in investigative detention in connection with an ambulatory nursing service in Nuremberg. The investigation is also targeting three other suspects, according to the Bavarian Central Authority for Combating Fraud and Corruption in the Healthcare Sector, which is also based in Nuremberg. The total damage is still not quantifiable. However, it is alleged that a single patient's insurance was defrauded of more than 50,000 euros.
The owner and an employee of the nursing service were taken into investigative detention on Tuesday due to the risk of evidence tampering. After the business premises of the company and seven private residences were searched in mid-July, they are suspected of influencing two seniors to make rehearsed statements in their upcoming testimonies to exonerate the suspects.
Unperformed services were billed
The Central Authority assumes that the two suspects, together with another man and two women, billed healthcare and nursing insurance for services that were not provided or should not have been billed. It is alleged that false performance reports were created, to which the detained employee is said to have significantly contributed.
The number of cases is still open, according to the Central Authority. Currently, the seized documents and storage media are being evaluated. The investigation was triggered by a report made by an employee of the nursing service to the police.
The two suspects under investigation are accused of billing health insurance for unperformed services, potentially defrauding the insurer of thousands of euros. The employees are also suspected of fabricating false performance reports to support their claims.
