Shortly after, the police arrived on the scene. Koch is a reserve lieutenant colonel in the parachute unit and had undergone close combat training.

On Tuesday evening, the AfD candidate for the local elections in Mannheim was attacked by a knife-wielding thief who was stealing posters. The suspect, aged 25, was detained and subsequently admitted to a psychiatric hospital on Wednesday, according to police and prosecutors. They reported clear signs of mental illness during the arrest.
