A new initiative is designed to empower school principals in managing pupils dealing with mental health issues. According to Education Minister Christian Piwarz (CDU), "Problems related to psychology and misconduct among children and adolescents greatly influence school environment and have lasting repercussions on teachers' job satisfaction and well-being." To tackle this issue, schools necessitate preventative assistance.

As part of this initiative, school heads will obtain specialized and practical guidance. Piwarz added, "We're significantly contributing to teacher's health and preserving the workforce."

In conjunction with the University Hospital in Dresden and the Saxon Hospital Arnsdorf, experimental and operational assistance and digital resources will be tested and implemented beginning from autumn. The training will mainly focus on imparting understanding about emotional problems or conduct disorders in students and dealing with them, as well as enhancing the utilization of resources via digitization, such as online learning materials.

Initially, 150 schools in Dresden and 100 schools in the Bautzen district will be participating. Subsequently, findings from this project will be extended to all of Saxony.

The Green Party's coalition partner, Christin Melcher, the education policy representative for the Green Party faction, expressed optimism. "Knowledge about psychological disorders and precise strategies for intervention reduce the sense of frustration." The Greens are in agreement with the Ministry of Education in promoting and fostering the welfare of teachers.

The School Management in participating schools will oversee the implementation of the new mental health initiative. To ensure effectiveness, they will collaborate closely with experts from Dresden University Hospital and Saxon Hospital Arnsdorf.
