Initiative supports family-run businesses
With the "Working Family" initiative, the state of Rhineland-Palatinate and the chambers of industry and commerce want to support family-run businesses in the hotel and catering industry in attracting and retaining employees. Competition for skilled workers in the regions and internationally is becoming increasingly fierce, explained Economics and Tourism Minister Daniela Schmitt (FDP) in Mainz on Thursday. "Working Family" is an important building block against the shortage of skilled workers. The initiative also supports the implementation of the state's joint Tourism Strategy 2025.
It has become clear how important it is for the industry to become active on its own initiative and promote itself with a strong and authentic employer brand, the minister emphasized. The initiative was launched in 2021. Across the country, 62 family businesses have now joined forces in the "Working Family" network. They are planning joint workshops and training sessions to draw the attention of potential applicants to the network and the wide range of professions in family businesses.
"We look forward to the network continuing to grow and even more committed businesses becoming part of this strong community," explained Albrecht Ehses, tourism policy spokesperson for the Rhineland-Palatinate Chamber of Industry and Commerce working group. "Hotels and restaurants play a key role in Rhineland-Palatinate and are an indispensable part of the local tourism service chain," emphasized Jan Glockauer, Managing Director of the Trier Chamber of Industry and Commerce. It is important to strengthen gastronomic diversity with qualified specialists - be it through the integration of foreign employees or initiatives such as "Working Family".
The hospitality industry, being part of the competitive labor market, greatly benefits from initiatives like "Working Family" to attract and retain skilled workers. Specialists are crucial in this regard, as they contribute to strengthening gastronomic diversity within the industry.
