Sabrina Wittmann, a 32-year-old woman, has been appointed as the head coach of FC Ingolstadt's men's team. She previously served as an interim coach for the club, which competes in the 3rd league of German football. This makes her the first female coach in Germany's top three leagues to be entrusted with a men's team.

Wittmann has proven her worth by leading the team undefeated and helping them win their first-ever cup victory, which also qualified them for the first round of the DFB Cup. However, they only managed to finish in 10th place in the league. For the upcoming season, Ingolstadt aims to promote to the 2nd Bundesliga.

Dietmar Beiersdorfer, the managing director of the club, expressed his trust in Wittmann by saying, "She has shown that not only can she develop young players, but also sustainably build teams and bring out their full potential and lead them to success. Due to these qualities and her extreme loyalty to FC Ingolstadt 04, we are confident that she is the ideal person to help us achieve our objectives."

The length of Wittmann's contract was not mentioned in the announcement. Before joining the professionals, she coached the U19 side of Upper Bavaria. Ivo Grlic, the sporting director, referred to her as "the best overall package for the coach position."

Wittmann, a native of Ingolstadt, also played for the club. She expressed her gratitude and excitement for the opportunity to continue leading the team, saying, "I'm incredibly proud and thankful that this journey, which we started in May, is now continuing, and Didi Beiersdorfer and Ivo Grlic continue to believe in me. I'm going to continue on the path we began with great enthusiasm, consistency, and intensity."
