Inflation continues to weaken in Saarland

Prices for electricity and firewood have fallen. Dairy products, eggs and fish also cost less. This has an impact on the inflation rate.

Inflation - Inflation continues to weaken in Saarland

The inflation rate in Saarland continued to lose ground in June, with a rate of 2.8%, according to the Saarbrücken Statistical Office. In May, the inflation rate was 2.9%, and in April it was 3.0%.

Prices for electricity decreased by 0.9% compared to June 2023. According to the Landesamt, consumers experienced significant relief in the prices of wood and wood pellets, with a price decrease of 7%.

However, gas and heating costs increased significantly (plus 9.6% and plus 36% respectively). Heating oil rose by 8.3% within a year. The prices for fuel at Saarland service stations remained almost unchanged (-0.1%).

Food prices increased by 1.5%, as the office further reported. Fruit cost 1.9% more, vegetables 0.7%. The prices for dairy products and eggs decreased by 2.2%, as did the prices for fish, fish products, and seafood (-4.2%).

In comparison to the previous year's June, electricity prices in Saarland saw a decrease in Saarbrücken. The significant price reduction in wood and wood pellets was noticed by Saarland's consumers. Despite these decreases, gas and heating costs experienced notable increases, contributing to the overall inflation in the region. The inflation rate in Saarland's previous year's June month was higher than the current June's rate.
