- Infidelity at Stuttgart hospital: Ex-manager jailed
Due to the Stuttgart clinic scandal, the former head of the international department, Andreas Braun, has been sentenced to four years and nine months in prison by the regional court. The economic chamber of the court found it proven that the defendant, among other things, had deceived the payers of 371 Libyan war wounded from 2013 to 2015 in their treatment and care to secure higher revenues for the clinic and six-figure sums for various service providers. The former manager was found guilty of, among other things, embezzlement, bribery, and attempted fraud.
Braun had already been in custody for several months and had contributed to the clarification of the charges through his statements during the investigation. The public prosecutor's office had requested a total custodial sentence of three years and ten months. The defense had argued for a suspended sentence.
Braun was previously the state chairman of the Baden-Württemberg Greens. He had no prior knowledge of the healthcare sector for the management position. He was supposed to help reduce the deficit of the Stuttgart clinic at the time by acquiring foreign private patients.
The Stuttgart clinic scandal involved significant instances of financial misconduct, including crimes like embezzlement and bribery. Despite his efforts to clarify the charges during his time in custody, Braun was ultimately convicted of these crimes.
