A blaze in a combined residence and workshop building on Usedom caused approximately 250,000 euros' worth of damage during the night into Sunday. Preliminary investigations indicate that the fire started in the living room on the top floor. The 60-year-old resident of the apartment claimed to have notified the fire department and police as soon as possible. He managed to escape unharmed from the building but sustained some minor injuries, which were treated on an outpatient basis. By the time the emergency responders arrived, the flames had already spread to other areas in the building, including the roof.
