Infection before Leverkusen game: Bremen coach has to sit out
Werder Bremen coach Ole Werner has had to cut short his preparations for the Bundesliga match against Bayer Leverkusen due to illness. The 35-year-old was also absent from Thursday's press conference ahead of the home game against the league leaders due to a flu-like infection. He was represented by professional soccer manager Clemens Fritz.
Fritz left it open as to whether Werner will be able to coach his team against Bayer on Saturday (3.30 pm/Sky). The training session on Thursday was led by assistant coach Patrick Kohlmann. He would stand in for Werner on the sidelines on Saturday if he is unavailable. Also ill is midfielder Naby Keita, who according to Fritz will not be fit until Saturday.
Despite his illness, Werder Bremen's coach Ole Werner hopes to recover in time for the crucial Bundesliga clash against Bayer Leverkusen. If he's unable to make it, assistant coach Patrick Kohlmann will take charge, as he did during the team's training on Thursday.
