At an accident on Autobahn 81 in Möglingen, Ludwigsburg district, two people have been seriously injured, among them a baby. A 49-year-old man noticed a defect in his car, turned on the hazard lights and pulled over to the right side of the road, stated a police spokeswoman.

A 64-year-old truck driver noticed that the car in front of him was slower and adjusted his speed accordingly, but a collision still occurred.

A 43-year-old female passenger and the baby a few months old were seriously injured and taken to the hospital. A three-year-old child, the driver of the car, and the truck driver remained unharmed in the accident on Wednesday.

The accident occurred on a so-called merge lane; this extends a acceleration lane. Vehicles can leave the autobahn at the next exit ramp on the merge lane, which increases the traffic flow. A higher accident rate cannot be observed at the location according to the spokeswoman.
