Legal adjudicator - Infant Dies Soon After Delivery; Parents Remain Mum On The Matter
During the first court hearing for the killing of a newborn child at the Bielefeld Regional Court, the accused parents stayed silent. Their legal representatives told the German Press Agency (dpa) that their clients would keep quiet about their defense initially. Prior to the indictment reading, the 20-year-old mother and the 22-year-old father solely spoke about themselves.
The prosecution has charged the two Germans with murder. According to the indictment, the authorities believe the couple had pre-planned to kill the baby together in November 2023, before its birth. The couple had contemplated adoption when they discovered the pregnancy, but it was too late for an abortion then, as shared by Veit Walter from the Bielefeld Public Prosecutor's Office while reading the indictment. Alternatives like adoption or assistance from relatives were also extended to the parents, yet they still opted for this heinous act.
The newborn baby was killed just after birth in a Bielefeld apartment through numerous stab wounds. It was claimed that in the middle of the night, the defendant, as per the investigations, took the baby's body wrapped in a cooler bag to a wooded location in Bielefeld. Soon after, traces of a brutal crime surfaced, and the parents had to be taken into custody in December 2023. The father later divulged information about the disposal site during interrogation.
The initial day of the trial involved only the reading of the indictment. The parents of the deceased Kevin, Kevin's family, appeared unconcerned. The trial will continue on June 21st.
