At the Bielefeld District Court trial for the death of a newborn, the accused parents kept quiet during the initial hearing on Tuesday. Their attorneys informed dpa that the clients would initially stick to defending themselves without comment. Prior to the indictment reading, the 20-year-old mother and 22-year-old father provided information about their personal details only.
In the indictment, the pair of Germans are being accused of murder. The investigators believe that the couple had jointly come to the decision, prior to the birth in November 2023, to kill the newborn. The couple considered adoption when they found out about the pregnancy but by that time it was too late for an abortion. They were also offered help by relatives. Yet, the crime was still committed.
The baby was killed minutes after birth in their Bielefeld apartment through several stab wounds. The accused man allegedly transported the lifeless body in a cooler bag to a forested area in Bielefeld at night. Hints of a violent act emerged, and the parents were apprehended in December 2023. During his interrogation, the father divulged the disposal site's location.
The first day of the trial saw only the reading of the indictment. The parents of Kevin looked calm, who was brutally murdered. The case will resume on June 21st.
