Industry records significantly fewer orders
Industry in the southwest has recorded a significant decline in orders. In October, orders fell by 19.8 percent compared to the same month last year, adjusted for prices and working days, according to preliminary figures released by the State Statistical Office in Stuttgart on Monday. From January to October, the year-on-year decline was 12.3 percent.
Price-adjusted turnover in October was slightly below the previous year's level with a drop of 1.8 percent. Over the course of the year, there was a slight increase of 0.4%.
Production fell by four percent on an adjusted basis compared to October last year. Overall, the industry produced 0.2 percent less from January to October than in the same period last year.
According to the figures, the southwest industry employed 1.184 million people in October, 13,300 (plus 1.1 percent) more than in the same month last year.
