Individuals in Germany are currently experiencing unprecedented levels of stress.
Young folks in Germany are reporting higher stress levels than they did a few years back, as per data from the Future Issues Foundation in Hamburg. It's mainly the young generation that's feeling this heightened stress, with 63% of individuals under 30 acknowledging they're more stressed out now. On the other hand, only 31% of those over 65 share this sentiment, while those aged 30-64 fall in the middle at 54%.
The root causes of this stress include digitalization, social media, difficulty managing work and personal life, and financial instability. The survey discovered that around 52% of Germans are feeling more stressed.
The digital shift and the transformation of the work environment are causing additional social stress for young people due to the constant comparison on social media.
Struggling with work-life balance
For those aged between 30 and 64, striking a balance between work and family life can be an additional stress factor. The demands from both the workplace and family have escalated in recent times, while support from family members has dwindled. Financial insecurity, resulting from unstable job markets and rising living costs, further aggravates their stress.
On the other hand, those above 65 tend to be more laid-back as they've either retired or have a consistent income. They still face global issues such as climate change, pandemics, conflicts, and wars, which contribute to their unease and stress. The survey involved 2,000 adult participants, carried out by a market research firm.
The Future Issues Foundation's survey revealed that a significant majority of young people, specifically those under 30, feel more stressed due to digitalization, social media, and financial instability. To Address this, many are looking into ways to manage their work-life balance better, as highlighted in the survey.
