A 25-year-old Afghan had injured five demonstrators from the Islam-critical movement Pax Europa, as well as a police officer with a knife on that Friday. The 29-year-old officer named Rouven Laur later succumbed to his injuries. Another officer fired at the attacker, who was then operated on and has been unable to communicate since. The suspect had previously resided in the Hessian town of Heppenheim.
