A 57-year-old individual was run over by a streetcar in Köpenick, resulting in critical injuries. As per preliminary police investigations, the elderly woman apparently strolled onto the streetcar tracks at the S-Bahnhof Köpenick stop on Mahlsdorfer Straße around mid-afternoon yesterday, apparently unaware of the approaching streetcar.

Despite swift emergency braking, the streetcar collided with the 57-year-old, inflicting severe head, upper body, and pelvic injuries. She was rushed to a nearby hospital. Luckily, the streetcar driver emerged unscathed. The scene was cordoned off for several hours post the accident, and the streetcar service was temporarily halted. Detailed investigations into the incident's root cause are still underway.

The 57-year-old's family is seeking answers about the incident, as they believe other safety measures could have been taken to prevent such an accident. Investigators are exploring various scenarios, including the possibility of other warning signs or signals that could have alerted the elderly woman.
