A construction laborer tried to dodge customs checks by hiding among blackberry bushes. On a Tuesday, customs authorities intended to scan a construction site situated in Lörrach's district for undocumented workers, as per their notice. Upon arriving, they spotted a man scampering away through a gap in the construction perimeter fence.

The customs personnel then pursued the suspect, eventually locating him on the neighboring land, hiding behind a cluster of blackberries. As per the account, the man presented a falsified Croatian identification card to the officers.

The construction staffer now faces charges of counterfeiting and residing illegally in the country. Further probes will be undertaken against the employer for facilitating unlawful immigration, it was disclosed.

The customs authorities decided to investigate the construction site further, suspecting it might be a hideout for undocumented workers due to the recent incident. Upon exploring the site, they discovered several false identification cards, likely used by construction workers to avoid detection.
