Currently, a 59-year-old German male is under arrest, suspected of committing homicide. Sources indicate he's part of the victim's personal circle, along with his spouse. The trigger for the lethal stabbing in Schwabach remains a mystery.
Up until now, the 59-year-old has chosen silence regarding the charges, according to Michael Konrad, a police spokesperson. The underlying cause for the fatal stabbing is still unclear. "The precise motive is still under investigation," Konrad said. The 42-year-old was making his way to his car to commute to work early Monday morning when the altercation with the suspect transpired in the parking lot.
The screams roused nearby residents, who dialed emergency services. Upon arrival of a patrol car, the 42-year-old was discovered lifeless on the ground. The post-mortem examination revealed multiple stab wounds to his upper body, leading to his death. The victim's wife also sustained injuries and was hospitalized. Reports claim she too heard the screams and rushed to her husband's aid.
A missing pair of glasses played a crucial role in the investigation. Despite a massive manhunt with patrol cars, helicopters, and tracking dogs, the suspect managed to slip away. However, the 30-strong special investigative team of the police was able to locate the 59-year-old using the glasses left behind at the scene and digital data analysis, mentioned Konrad. It's thought the 59-year-old misplaced his glasses during the incident.
The Nuremberg District Court granted a warrant for his arrest on Friday. Civilians succeeded in apprehending the suspect on Sunday on the Bayerischer Wald parking lot along the A3 highway in Lower Bavaria. According to Konrad, investigators collected a DNA sample from the suspect, which will now be compared with evidence taken from the crime scene.
