Display of Artwork - Individual Andy Warhol Exhibition in Berlin
The renowned American artist, Andy Warhol (1928-1987), holds a significant position in the realm of Pop Art. As a cultural icon, he's famously known for his iconic creations like Marilyn Monroe, Mao's portraits, Campbell's Soup cans, and more. These works continue to make an impact on tourists exploring Berlin's New National Gallery. His art will be on display from this Sunday until October 6th, coinciding with the "Andy Warhol. Velvet Rage and Beauty" exhibition.
The showcase is spread across an area of over 320 pieces, with a third of them coming from Pittsburgh's Warhol Museum- his birthplace. Numerous exhibits formerly housed in private collections are also on show, opening a window into unexplored facets of Warhol's work. The artist's delicate sketches of lovers in the 50s, as well as gold-plated art, are among these rare pieces.
Exploring Inner Emotions
"This exhibition presents an innovative and possibly unknown Warhol, someone whose works echo vulnerability, romance, desire, and anguish above all," Lisa Botti, one of the curators, mentioned during Friday's preview.
In this exhibition, Warhol's battle with societal beauty standards is a prominent theme. Visitors can see Polaroids of Warhol dressed as a drag queen, explore sexual forms, and witness countless naked skin representations- all within different artistic mediums. "Andy Warhol. Velvet Rage and Beauty" delves into a side of the artist not previously perceived, focusing on his struggles with sexual orientation. Homosexuality was illegal or just recently decriminalized in several regions, including the U.S.
