Crime - Indictment against two suspected smugglers in Dresden

The Dresden public prosecutor's office has brought charges against two men on the accusation of gang and commercial smuggling of foreigners. As a member of an internationally operating gang, a 30-year-old is alleged to have illegally brought refugees to Germany in three cases, as the public prosecutor's office announced on Friday. He is accused of smuggling in 22 refugees, presumably from Syria, on the night of August 3 this year, a further 14 people on the night of August 5 and 21 Syrians on August 8. A 23-year-old man is said to have been involved in the latter case and has also been charged.

The smuggling is said to have taken place under "inhumane conditions" and the smuggled people are said to have been unsecured in the van during the journey.

The two men from Poland were arrested on August 8 and are currently in custody. Both suspects reportedly have a criminal record. The 30-year-old has confessed, while the 23-year-old has not yet provided any information on the accusation. The Dresden Regional Court will now decide whether to admit the charges.
