Berlin - Indictment against 23-year-old for series of robberies and murders
Following a series of robberies in Berlin and Saxony-Anhalt in which two of the elderly victims died, charges have been brought against another suspected member of the gang. According to the Berlin public prosecutor's office on Thursday, the charges include two cases of joint treacherous murder and three cases of gang robbery. The young man is said to have fled after the crimes in summer 2022 and was arrested in France in May 2023. He has been in custody since then. Five other suspected members of the gang have been on trial since April.
On August 18, the group allegedly tricked a 67-year-old woman in Annaburg in Saxony-Anhalt into letting them into her apartment. In the apartment, the woman is said to have been beaten, tied up and finally strangled. The perpetrators left the house with valuables.
Just one day later, according to the public prosecutor's office, several men allegedly killed an 83-year-old man in his apartment in the Märkisches Viertel district of Berlin-Reinickendorf. The man is said to have died either during or after the attack because his mouth had been taped shut.
On July 1, four perpetrators allegedly forced a couple aged 81 and 87 into their apartment in Berlin. There, the victims were allegedly brought to the floor and gagged. After being beaten and threatened, the residents allegedly revealed where they kept their money and valuables. They were left seriously injured. In other cases, people aged 82, 78 and 80 were attacked in their homes.
