Processes - Indictment after fatal police shooting of 16-year-old boy

Following the fatal police shooting of a 16-year-old refugee in Dortmund, the trial against five police officers begins on December 19. The Dortmund Regional Court has admitted the prosecution's indictment, it announced on Tuesday. Eleven trial dates are initially scheduled for the trial until April 2024.

The young refugee from Senegal was shot dead on the grounds of a youth welfare facility on August 8, 2022. The police had been called there because the 16-year-old is said to have initially threatened to kill himself with a knife. He was first attacked by the police with pepper spray and tasers. Finally, a police officer shot him with a submachine gun.

The shooter is now accused of manslaughter. Two female police officers and one male police officer have been charged with dangerous bodily harm in the line of duty. They are alleged to have used pepper spray and tasers without justification. The public prosecutor's office accuses their squad leader of instigating them to do so.
