State election - Independent voters criticize unequal treatment in election forums

The Free Voters (FW) in Saxony are complaining about political unequal treatment at the forums for the State Parliament election on September 1st. They will be organized by the State Central Office for Political Education in partnership with partners in all 60 electoral districts of the Free State. Seven parties were invited to the election forums: CDU, AfD, Left, Greens, SPD, FDP, and the Alliance Sahra Wagenknecht (BSW).

"Massive unequal treatment"

The Free Voters see this as "massive unequal treatment and political influence on the election." "This is how political education functions in Saxony. An institution appointed by the state government, funded by the taxpayer, determines who is invited to the elections and who can speak and who isn't. That's quite remarkable," explained FW leader Thomas Weidinger.

At the same time, the party chairman criticized the selection of the State Central Office for Political Education. "One cannot escape the impression that the selection criteria were deliberated until they fit. How else can it be explained that an FDP, which is not represented in the state parliament and consistently lags behind the Free Voters in the polls, was invited? With the BSW, current polls are referred to, a self-fulfilling prophecy."

Weidinger reminded that his party is represented in the European Parliament and in two German state parliaments. In addition, they have cut through as the third strongest force in most regions in Saxony in the communal elections. The fact that even promising direct candidates of the FW, such as the mayor of Grimma Matthias Berger, were not invited, also caused dissatisfaction with Weidinger.
