- Increasingly, numerous individuals are experiencing reduced expenses when it comes to obtaining car insurance.

Following a review of accident hazards, around 360,000 car owners in Rhineland-Palatinate may benefit from more lenient liability policies in their vehicle insurance. According to the German Insurance Association (GDV), this affects about 16% of the state's 2.3 million drivers, with significant improvements expected in Mainz, Worms, and Neuwied.

On the flip side, elevated risks have been noted in Kaiserslautern, Frankenthal, and Rhein-Hunsrück, leading to higher regional classes for around 250,000 drivers, which significantly impact insurance premium calculations. The driver's residence, not the registration office, dictates the regional class.

Across Germany, Offenbach is the most accident-prone area, followed by Berlin. Accidents are common in these cities, and the damages often surpass the average, reaching nearly 40%. As a result, vehicles in Offenbach are required to be insured in the highest regional class 12, according to Anja Käfer-Rohrbach, Deputy CEO of the GDV. Cochem-Zell, however, boasts the best damage record in Rhineland-Palatinate, while Ludwigshafen has the worst.

Motor vehicle liability insurance is mandatory and covers damages caused to others by the vehicle owner. Damage to the owner's vehicle requires separate, comprehensive insurance coverage, either partial or full.

In Rhineland-Palatinate, approximately 270,000 comprehensive insurance policyholders will be moved to a higher regional class, while about 330,000 will be shifted to a more favorable, lower class. In partial comprehensive insurance, Birkenfeld/Nahe District holds the highest regional class (14), while Frankenthal has the lowest (1 out of 16). In full comprehensive insurance, divisible into nine regional classes, Birkenfeld/Nahe, Bitburg-Prüm, Idar-Oberstein, and Daun occupy the highest class 7, while the lowest class 1 is assigned to Alzey-Worms and Mainz-Bingen.

The impact of these new classifications on insurance premiums is yet to be determined, as it relies on various other factors. The GDV's regional statistics serve as recommendations for insurance companies and can be implemented in new contracts and existing contracts starting from the following insurance year.

Other regions in Rhineland-Palatinate, like Birkenfeld/Nahe District and Bitburg-Prüm, also have different regional classes for comprehensive insurance, affecting insurance premium calculations for many drivers. These classifications can significantly impact insurance premiums for other car owners, as the GDV's regional statistics guide insurance company decisions.
