The government of Thuringia is ensuring that municipalities will receive funding for refugee accommodations up until 2026. Starting now, the state will compensate districts and free cities for unused, extra lodging options, as per the State Administration Office's announcement. Interior Minister Frank Roßner mentioned that they've revised the cost reimbursement terms.

This has been a longstanding issue amongst Thuringia's municipalities and the state over how to finance these accommodations for refugees. Roßner stated that this new regulation gives certain municipalities a more secure outlook for the long-term, allowing them to confidently provide extra spots that go beyond the standard required capacity.

In Thuringia, all districts and cities are required to keep a minimum of 13,500 spaces ready for housing refugees, according to the guidelines. The State Administration Office revealed that each district will receive 294 euros per month for every occupied refugee space. Free cities, on the other hand, get 332 euros per month per occupied space. Municipalities that provide additional spaces are offered an extra 30 euros per space per month. Moreover, for lodgings that are wheelchair-accessible and specifically cater to refugees with disabilities, districts will get a monthly allowance of 354 euros per space, while free cities will receive 392 euros per space.
