Well-being - Increased presence of school nurses anticipated by 2025.
Starting from February 2025, various schools in Berlin will introduce school nurses. This news was shared by Education State Secretary Christina Henke (CDU) in response to a query made by Left MP Franziska Brychcy. The plan is to have a concept on the deployment of health professionals, also known as school nurses, by the end of the year. Eventually, there will be a tender that will initially focus on schools involved in the state program "Good Healthy School" as well as Lichtenberg schools taking part in the district model project. There are currently around 66 schools participating in the state program (as of December 2023).
A sum of one million euros has been allocated in the budget to fund this pilot project. School nurses will serve as an immediate resource for minor injuries or ailments. They will also provide assistance with health-related concerns such as proper nutrition or sufficient physical activity. These nurses are a staple in schools across Scandinavia, Poland, and the US.
