Excessive consumption of alcohol - Increased number of hospitalized youth due to excessive drinking.

In the region of Thuringia, the number of underage individuals requiring hospitalization due to alcohol poisoning has seen a rise. The Statistical State Office reported on Thursday that in 2022, approximately 400 youngsters aged 18 and under were admitted to the facility for this reason, representing a 45% increase from 2021 and a 97% jump from 2020. The total admissions for acute alcohol poisoning in 2019, prior to the coronavirus pandemic, stood at 482.

Not only were minors affected, as a overall increase in admissions resulting from alcohol poisoning was observed. Hospitals tallied a total of 2470 instances in 2022, a 4.1% climb from the year prior. The majority of these hospital stays were occupied by men.
