Nutrition and beverages - Increased German wine exports
In the first three months of 2024, the trade of German wines saw a substantial upsurge. The quantity and worth of shipped wines surged by nine percent apiece relative to the same period in 2023, the German Wine Institute in Bodenheim reported. This translated to roughly 283,000 hectoliters being sold overseas and around 92 million euros being received.
Export numbers to China skyrocketed - a rise of 47% to around 5.4 million euros and a surge of 49% to approximately 10,000 hectoliters. Additionally, German wine exporters scored double-digit sales and shipping growth in the Netherlands, Poland, Japan, and Denmark.
In 2023, the overall sales increased by four percent compared to the previous year to 384 million euros, predominantly due to price hikes. Producers in overseas markets were paid an average of 3.35 euros for a liter of wine during the period from April 2023 to March 2024, which was a 13-cent spike compared to the previous year's period.
