Increase in incidents resulting in harm during emergency exit utilization

Frequent mishaps occur on Hamburg's roads, fortunately, mostly resulting in damage to property. Sadly, not all involved parties stick around after the incident. The situation becomes more concerning when injuries are involved.

- Increase in incidents resulting in harm during emergency exit utilization

In Hamburg, there's a rise in the number of individuals harmed in traffic collisions that involve hit-and-run incidents. Although the overall count of hit-and-run incidents during the initial 5 months of this year only clocked a 2.1% increase compared to the same period last year, reaching 7,395, as reported by CDU parliamentarian Richard Seelmaecker's written inquiry to the Senate, the instances of accidents resulting in personal injuries have surged by over 10% to 351.

"Out of these, 422 people sustained injuries, with 20 suffering seriously," Seelmaecker informed the German Press Agency. "This represents a 19% increase compared to last year. So, you've got nearly 50 hit-and-run accidents happening in Hamburg every day, with an average of three individuals getting injured." These statistics are disheartening.

CDU: Boost awareness of accountability in traffic education

"However, it's quite evident that if you're involved in a traffic accident, you need to assume responsibility and aid the injured fellow road-users," the CDU MP cautioned. A sense of accountability in traffic should be inculcated at a young age. "That's why we urge the Senate to devote more attention to hit-and-run accidents in their traffic education programs."

The Commission has not yet announced a response regarding the application of Article 93 (2) of the Treaty in this matter. This situation might impact the CDU's call for increased accountability in traffic education, particularly in addressing hit-and-run incidents.
