Society - Inclusion officer: more consideration needed for the disabled

On the occasion of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities, the Saxon State Commissioner for Inclusion, Michael Welsch, has called for more consideration. "Consideration of the needs of people with disabilities must become a matter of course in all administrative and political decisions," Welsch said in a statement on Sunday.

The human rights aspects of the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities must be the guiding principle for the actions of all stakeholders.

In a state report submitted by the Federal Republic of Germany to a United Nations expert committee, the committee identified an urgent need for action, particularly in the areas of education, the labor market and independent living. The federal, state and local authorities are therefore called upon to step up their efforts to implement the Convention, particularly in these areas.

The International Day of Persons with Disabilities is celebrated every year on December 3.
