The new Archbishop of Bamberg, Herwig Gössl, will be officially inaugurated on March 2, 2024. This was announced by a spokesperson for the archdiocese on Monday. The feast of the canonized patron saint of the diocese, Kunigunde, will be celebrated on this day. On December 9, the Holy See announced that 56-year-old Gössl would be promoted from auxiliary bishop to archbishop. The long-serving Archbishop Ludwig Schick stepped down in November 2022. Reason: He wanted to make way for a younger person to take on the upcoming challenges.
