- In Thuringia, voter participation has thus far mirrored the figures from the 2019 elections.
During the local election in Thuringia, it seems like voter participation is around the same level as the last parliamentary election. The state election commissioner mentioned that approximately 44.4% of eligible voters had cast their ballots by 2:00 PM at the voting stations. It's important to note that mail-in votes haven't been factored into these figures yet. In the 2019 election, turnout was at 42.2% at this very point in time.
This trend suggests a higher engagement in the state election compared to the European and local elections held recently in June. The turnout for the June elections was only 34.6% at the same hour.
Polling stations will stay open until 6:00 PM.
The Landtag, Thuringia's state parliament, will be formed based on these election results. Despite the lack of mail-in vote inclusion in the current numbers, the Landtag election is showing a potential increase in voter engagement compared to the last local election.
