In Thuringia, AfD Election Party Now Absolute Press-Free Following Judicial Decision
The Regional Court of Erfurt approved a judgment on Saturday, dating back to August 21st, forcing the AfD in Thuringia to grant access to their election gathering following the state election on Sunday to various journalists and media outlets that were initially barred. The publishers of "Spiegel", "taz", "Welt", and "Bild" took legal action against the exclusion from an AfD election event.
As per a representative, accreditation was only granted for six media representatives, but there were over 150 additional accreditation requests. If the court decision was followed, the party would have needed to permit access to all, surpassing capacity, the representative explained. The election gathering was anticipated to accommodate 150 invited guests and 50 accredited media representatives.
The representative mentioned that the revision of how and in what manner the election gathering will proceed is still under consideration. However, it was confirmed that "only invited guests" will be permitted entry.
New state parliaments are to be elected in Thuringia and Saxony on Sunday. Approximately 1.66 million citizens are encouraged to vote in Thuringia. In the surveys, the AfD leads significantly in Thuringia, where its state branch is classified by the domestic intelligence service as unequivocally right-wing extremist.
The publication of the Regional Court of Justice's decision might impact the AfD's strategy, as they were ordered to grant access to more journalists due to the previous judgment. Despite the court's ruling, the Court of Justice has yet to issue a decision on the matter.
