Local governments - In the Unstrut-Hainich region, a run-off election will take place between Zanker and Ahke.
SPD's Harald Zanker is facing a runoff election against challenger Thomas Ahke from FWG-UG in the Unstrut-Hainich-Kreis. In the recent municipal elections held on Sunday, Zanker received 39.7% of the votes, while Ahke secured 25.0% of the votes.
As per a list from the German Association of Counties, if Zanker wins the election in two weeks, he could become the county administrator with the longest tenure in Germany. He has been the county administrator since 1994. Unfortunately, Zanker's two long-term colleagues Werner Henning from CDU in Eichsfeld and Martina Schweinsburg from CDU in Landkreis Greiz couldn't run for re-election due to age restrictions for Thuringian county administrators.
