- In the initial half of the year, Hamburg witnessed an uptick in its construction sector.
The construction sector in Hamburg experienced growth during the first half of the year, surpassing the same period the previous year. Approximately 1.1 billion euros were generated in the initial six months, as reported by the North Statistics Office. This marks a 2.5% increase compared to the first half of the previous year. Even after accounting for inflation, the growth remains at 1.6%. The data was collated from 131 construction companies based in Hamburg that employ over 20 individuals.
The civil engineering sector witnessed notable success. Excluding road construction, sales ascended by 21.6% once inflation was factored in. Sales in civil engineering sectors, such as enhancing rail infrastructure or constructing bridges, skyrocketed by 47.4% to 196 million euros. Residential construction also demonstrated positive advancements with a 3.6% increase, unlike road construction, which suffered a 8% setback as per statistics.
New orders also displayed growth, increasing by 6.6% to 1.1 billion euros in contrast to the same period last year. The most significant increase was in the civil engineering sector, at 30.1%. Regrettably, the value of new orders in residential construction decreased by 3.7% as per the statistical data.
The growth in the construction sector also boosted opportunities for local suppliers, leading to an increase in material sales by 5%. The civil engineering division, specifically, saw a significant surge in construction projects, with a 250% increase in requests for tender.
