VfB Stuttgart, the second-placers, initiated their new Bundesliga campaign with a loss. On Saturday, they suffered a 1:3 (1:1) defeat against SC Freiburg. Champions League participant RB Leipzig secured a 1:0 (0:0) victory over VfL Bochum. Bundesliga novices Holstein Kiel endured their debut loss 2:3 (0:2) against TSG Hoffenheim. The anticipated backlash by the local crowd against TSG's personnel policies largely failed to materialize.

FC Augsburg and Werder Bremen concluded in a 2:2 (2:1) draw, while FSV Mainz 05 and 1. FC Union Berlin shared a 1:1 (0:0) result. Tonight (6:30 PM/Sky), Borussia Dortmund faces Eintracht Frankfurt. Last Friday, champions Bayer Leverkusen commenced the season with a 3:2 (2:0) triumph over Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Freiburg reverted the match against Stuttgart

For Stuttgart, new signing Ermedin Demirovic netted a goal early in the first-half for Freiburg (2'). Then, Freiburg's Lukas Kübler (27') restored parity with a striking 25-meter shot. Ritsu Doan (54') secured the win for Julien Schuster's team, before Kübler (61') boosted their tally further.

Leipzig's new acquisition Antonio Nusa (59') found the back of the net in the second half. Leipzig's Willi Orban was shown a red card (85') for a last-man foul.

In Hoffenheim, Andrej Kramaric (6') converted a penalty for the home side, as Timon Weiner fouled Marius Bülter prior to that. Kramaric (37') extended Hoffenheim's lead in the first half. Alexander Bernhardsson (63') scored Kiel's pioneering first Bundesliga goal, but Andu Kelati was sent off for repeated fouls (82'). Kramaric (87') seemed set to claim the victory, but Shuto Machino (89') scored a late response.

Augsburg witnessed multiple goals

Bremen took the lead via Felix Agu (12'), but Augsburg's Elvis Rexhbecaj (16') quickly equalized. New arrival Samuel Essende (35') put the hosts back in front, before substitute Justin Njinmah (58') levelled things up for Bremen again.

On Union coach Bo Svensson's return to his previous club Mainz, Nadiem Amiri (53') scored a direct free-kick from 30 meters for the home team post-half-time. Laszlo Benes (75') equalized for Union.

In the ongoing Bundesliga, VfL Bochum faced RB Leipzig and unfortunately lost 1:0, with Antonio Nusa scoring for Leipzig in the second half. On a different note, when VfB Stuttgart and Freiburg met, Freiburg managed to turn the match around, defeating Stuttgart 3:1.
