In spite of the parking glass, these pests prepare dumplings.

Free parking spaces are still available for a specific duration, but you must display a parking ticket. Failing to comply with these regulations can lead to hefty penalties. However, are you acquainted with all the regulations?

It's not uncommon to find vacant parking spaces, especially for a limited period. You can take advantage of this by using a parking ticket, often available for free as promotional items or sold at affordable prices, such as at hardware stores.

However, not all parking tickets are equal. It's crucial to adhere to some rules to avoid fines, as highlighted by the ADAC. Here are the key regulations:

  • The parking ticket must always be blue and white. Although you can find them in different colors, only the blue and white ones are valid. The dimensions and markings should also follow specifications: 11 cm by 15 cm. The sequence should also be correct: 1, 2, 3, 4, from left to right. Incorrect labeling can lead to a 20 euro fine.
  • The parking ticket must be set to the next half-hour after parking. For instance, if you park your car at 1:05 PM, you should set the ticket to 1:30 PM. Any other setting is incorrect and could result in a 40 euro fine if you park without a ticket, have an incorrectly set ticket, or exceed the permitted parking time.
  • The parking ticket must be placed visibly inside your vehicle. The dashboard is a suitable location.
  • Moving your vehicle back and forth does not constitute a new parking session. You must start a new session if you wish to reuse the same space.
  • Electronic parking tickets also follow rules. They require type approval and must display the blue and white parking sign 314 (white "P" on a blue background). The time cannot run automatically. "Time of arrival" should be displayed above the screen.
  • Motorcyclists are also required to affix a parking ticket if necessary. The specific location is not specified by the law, but it should be secure and visible. A suggestion: Punch a hole in the ticket and use a cable tie to attach it to your bike. Alternatively, take a photo of your bike as evidence that you set the time correctly.

Exceeding the parking time in most cases leads to a fine: 20 euros for up to 30 minutes, 25 euros for up to one hour, 30 euros for up to two hours, and a hefty 40 euros for longer than three hours. Private parking spaces, like supermarket lots, have their own rules, usually displayed on-site.

The ADAC advocates for adhering to specific rules when using parking tickets to avoid fines. These rules include ensuring the ticket is blue and white, correctly labeled, and set to the next half-hour.

Furthermore, the ADAC advises that the parking ticket should be placed visibly inside the vehicle and not moved back and forth to start a new parking session. Motorcyclists also require a parking ticket, which should be securely and visibly attached to their bike.
