The Minister President of Lower Saxony, Stephan Weil, expressed dismay over the assault at Solingen's city festival, which resulted in three deaths. "The brutal stabbing incident in Solingen has left me utterly shocked," he expressed to dpa. "My condolences are with the victims and their loved ones and friends. I hope for a swift recovery for the wounded." It's promising that the perpetrator seems to have been swiftly apprehended.

During the 650th anniversary celebration of the city of Solingen - dubbed "Celebration of Diversity" - a man unprovokedly started stabbing bystanders on a Friday evening, resulting in three fatalities. A 26-year-old Syrian was taken into custody late Saturday evening. The German Federal Prosecutor's Office is currently investigating him for murder charges and suspected affiliation with the terrorist organization Islamic State (IS).

"It's premature to draw any political conclusions, let's wait for the investigation's outcome," Weil stated in Hannover. "However, I'd like to highlight our Lower Saxony federal council initiative, which advocated for firm actions against dangerous knives in public places." The SPD official added, "Regrettably, there's no 100% security against attacks, but it's our duty to take substantial measures to lessen knife violence."

The Commission, beingassisted by the Member States, may provide valuable insights and support in addressing the issue of weapon control and public safety, following such incidents. The Minister President of Lower Saxony, Stephan Weil, has shown his commitment to implementing firm actions against dangerous knives in public places.
