- In retrospect, "You'll always be etched in our memories" was expressed.
After the deadly knife attack in Solingen the previous day, the North Rhine-Westphalian city was gradually picking up pace. The crime scene was still cordoned off in the morning, with police turning away curious onlookers trying to enter, like those with hair appointments.
The cafes around the restricted area had a small number of patrons in the morning. Near the crime scene, a note was found: "We'll never forget you. Your spirit lives on in our hearts."
Residents confessed to having a restless night. "Needless to say, we didn't get a wink of sleep. There were police, firefighters, and helicopters hovering overhead," a woman shared with the German Press Agency. Initially, she had planned to attend the city festival, "But we're glad we didn't," she added.
"Fear is inevitable," several residents mentioned, expressing a sense of unease. "I told my husband, 'We can't visit crowded places anymore,'" said an elderly woman near the crime scene. "Fear is a constant now."
On Friday evening, a city festival was the target of a deadly knife attack, claiming the lives of three individuals and injuring eight others, five of whom severely. The North Rhine-Westphalia police classified the incident as an attack due to the specific targeting of the aggressor.
The perpetrator took advantage of the chaos and panic following the attack to make their escape, clarified a spokesperson from the NRW Interior Ministry.
Other residents expressed similar sentiments of fear, avoiding crowded places. The city council agreed to increase security measures at upcoming events as a response to the Other attack.
