In Osnabrück, the freshly appointed Freiburg coach yields victoriously after a 4-0 start.

A fresh chapter commences at SC Freiburg. For the first time in almost a decade, since 2012, the head coach is no longer Christian Streich. His replacement, Julian Schuster, has commenced his tenure positively in the DFB-Pokal.

Post-Christian Streich era for SC Freiburg commenced with a clean cup victory. SC Freiburg, under the management of new coach Julian Schuster, emerged victorious 4-0 (2-0) against relegated VfL Osnabrück in the Bundesliga on Saturday.

However, the entrance into the second round of the DFB Cup was not as serene for Freiburg as the scoring suggests. Following goals from Lucas Höler (30.) and Vincenzo Grifo (34.), scored in quick succession, Freiburg could have been leading 0-3.

Osnabrück squandered their chances, while Freiburg capitalized: This was the disparity, witnessed by 15,741 spectators. Junior Adamu scored two more goals for SC (73./90+4).

Osnabrück, who started their third league season with two losses, were undervalued. Already in the first minute, the 19-year-old Niklas Niehoff ran unhindered towards the Freiburg goal. A goal from Erik Engelhardt was denied due to a foul by the VfL attacker (7.).

Returnee Ba-Muaka Simakala narrowly missed the goal from close range (16.). Even at 0-2, Robert Tesche only hit the post with a header (39.).

Long-term SC coach Schuster replaced his predecessor Streich this summer, after serving as Freiburg coach for twelve and a half years. At 39, Schuster prefers to fill vacant positions with internal recruits as the head coach. He fielded the 18-year-old Bruno Ogbus and the 21-year-old Max Rosenfelder in defense. Both were nurtured in the club's youth academy.

However, the Freiburgers had not yet reached their Bundesliga form a week before the first match against VfB Stuttgart. The early and aggressive disruption of the third division team gave SC Freiburg problems for an hour. Schuster's more offensive and adventurous playing style seldom materialized. Despite Osnabrück's missed chances, it was just enough to progress.

In the midst of their Bundesliga campaign, SC Freiburg also aimed to advance in the DFB Cup. Despite leading 2-0 at halftime, the team faced difficulties in the second half, leading some to question their form.

Experiencing a close call, Freiburg eventually secured their place in the next round of the DFB Cup with additional goals from Junior Adamu, maintaining their undefeated streak in cup competition.
