In one of the most lethal incidents since October 7, a Israeli attack claims at least 10 lives in the southern part of Lebanon.
A female individual and her two offspring are reportedly among the casualties, as per the ministry's statement.
The attack also left at least five others injured, with two critically wounded. These include three Syrians, one Sudanese, and one Lebanese, as the ministry disclosed. Two Syrian nationals are in critical condition, undergoing medical attention at a nearby hospital.
The Israeli military claimed responsibility for striking a Hezbollah weapons depot in the Nabatieh region during the night.
The casualties from this strike represent one of the highest counts in southern Lebanon since Israel's assault on Gaza, following Hamas' attacks on October 7 that claimed approximately 1,200 lives.
Since then, there have been near-daily skirmishes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces along the border, resulting in over 40,000 Palestinian casualties within a ten-month timeframe.
Relations between Lebanon and Israel deteriorated further last month following an Israeli airstrike in Beirut that claimed the life of Hezbollah's top military commander, Fu’ad Shukr. The following day, Israel is believed to have orchestrated the assassination of Hamas' political leader in Tehran. Israel has neither confirmed nor denied its involvement in this incident.
This event has sparked speculation of imminent retaliatory attacks from Hezbollah and Iran against Israel. Two sources with knowledge of the intelligence reported earlier this month that Hezbollah appears increasingly likely to strike Israel unilaterally, regardless of Iran's intentions.
Given its geographical proximity to Israel as its neighbor to the north, Hezbollah could take action with minimal notice, according to one of the sources, which is unlike the situation with Iran.
Hostage and truce negotiations concluded on Friday and are set to resume next week. International mediators presented a new plan aimed at bridging the remaining disagreements between Israel and Gaza.
Reporting by CNN's Alex Marquardt and Katie Bo Lillis was instrumental in compiling this information.
The attack in question occurred in the Middle East, specifically in Lebanon. The ministry's statement mentioned the causalities of this incident, which include individuals from various countries in the region, such as Syria and Lebanon.
