In Hesse, there could be flooding and rain that doesn't stop.

In several areas of Hesse, authorities forecast persisting downpours and substantial rain over the weekend. The possibility of flooding is also high due to the lack of capacity in the soil to absorb additional liquid.

Climatic Conditions - In Hesse, there could be flooding and rain that doesn't stop.

The German Meteorological Service (DWD) has issued a warning for rain throughout the weekend. As reported by the Hessian State Office for Nature Conservation, Environment and Geology (HLNUG), there's a possibility of local flooding due to the saturated soil in various areas, as it can't absorb any more water from the ongoing rainfall. The DWD predicts that rain will arrive from the east on Friday evening. The Odenwald, Spessart, and Rhön regions are expected to receive 20-30 liters of rain per square meter, lasting from Friday evening to Saturday afternoon or early afternoon. The Bergstraße district, Odenwald district, Darmstadt-Dieburg district, and the city of Darmstadt are particularly at risk, along with the Main-Kinzig district and the Fulda district. Additionally, the Werra-Meißner district, Hersfeld-Rotenburg district, Vogelsberg district, and the Wetterau district should be prepared for possible thunderstorms with heavy rainfall of up to 60 liters per square meter.

The HLNUG had already cautioned earlier about potential flooding due to heavy rain. The Werra, Rhine, and Neckar rivers in Hesse are expected to breach their warning levels over the weekend, although the forecasts were initially vague. The DWD advised on Friday of potential flooding of roads and underpasses and urged everyone, especially those living in the designated areas for the thunderstorms, to closely monitor any changes in weather conditions.
