In Hamburg, 20 e-cars have to share one charging point
Drivers looking for a charging point for electric cars in Hamburg are finding them quite quickly. According to data from the German Association of the Automotive Industry (VDA), there were already 2374 publicly accessible charging points in the Hanseatic city in June. This means that, in purely mathematical terms, 20.3 electric vehicles registered in Hamburg share a charging point. According to the data, a good 48,230 electric vehicles were registered in Hamburg at the time.
Compared to the rest of Germany, the city-state on the Elbe therefore performs rather below average and ranks 12th in the table. The front-runner is Saxony with one publicly accessible charging station for 13.9 electric cars, while Saarland is in 16th place with a figure of 30 cars per charging station. Berlin offers 19.3 e-cars a charging point, while in Munich 25.6 e-vehicles have to share a charging point.
However, the hunt for a charging point is likely to improve every month. Between January and June alone, 333 new charging points were added in Hamburg, according to the survey. There were 630 new charging points in Berlin and 87 in Munich.
According to the ranking, the national average is 21.1 cars per public charging point. The front-runner is the city of Ingolstadt (4.2 cars per charging point), with the city of Wiesbaden in last place by some distance (115.7). In total, there were almost 97,500 publicly accessible charging points at the time.
Despite the increase in electric car registrations in Hamburg, with over 48,230 electric vehicles, consumers are still facing challenges in finding adequate charging points. The scarcity is so severe that 20 electric cars must share a single charging point in the city.
