- In Greifswald, an officer on a break from duty was assaulted.

A 28-year-old cop got bashed up pretty bad outside of work in Greifswald by a crew of five ruffians. The younger companion, a 24-year-old, also got seriously hurt in the attack, which went down around 2:00 AM last Sunday.

Preliminary findings indicate that the two victims initially got ambushed by a 29-year-old dude, as revealed by the Ministry of the Interior on Tuesday. The perp's chat during the brawl had direct ties to the 28-year-old's job in blue.

The whole gang apparently carried on pounding the victims while they were down. Both suffered major damage, particularly to their mugs, and were rushed to the university hospital for more care. The prime suspect was nabbed right after the tussle. The IDs of the four supposed sidekicks, ranging from 17 to 19, are on file. They'll all be probed for grievous bodily harm.

Minister Pegel blasts the brutal act

Interior Minister Christian Pegel (SPD)rafhed the brutality. "Attacking our cops means attacking the state, which means attacking all of us. If someone gets brutalized in their private life because they're a cop, it's even worse. I'm hoping for a swift and severe law enforcement action against this attack on law and order, and all of us. I send my speediest and full recovery wishes to the injured officer. My sympathies also go to his family and loved ones."

The attack on the two officers occurred in Greifswald, a city where the 28-year-old cop resides and works. The Minister of the Interior is greatly concerned about this incident, as it represents an attack on law and order in the city of Greifswald.
