Saxony-Anhalt's Vehicle Registration Lags Behind significantly compared to the rest of Germany. Only 14 out of 30 regions in Saxony-Anhalt provide online vehicle registration, representing a meager 42.9% of the total districts. On a national scale, this service is utilized in 87% of the districts. Districts such as Stendal, Salzwedel, Harz, Mansfeld-Südharz, Wittenberg, and Salzland district are technologically prepared for digital vehicle registration.

According to the Federal Ministry of Transport, online vehicle registration (i-KfZ) was utilized over 1.21 million times across Germany within a year. The most active regions are Ingolstadt in Bavaria, with a share of 21.1%, and the district of Hildburghausen in Thuringia, where approximately one out of five digital registrations (20.4%) occur. The national average is a mere 5%. Saxony-Anhalt's share is even lower at 1.1%, making it one of the least digitized regions along with Mecklenburg-Vorpommern and Bremen. As per the city of Halle, the online service is temporarily unavailable due to the city's ongoing process of implementing a comprehensive system upgrade to expand service offerings.

The ministry acknowledges numerous advantages for car owners in embracing this digital service, with deregistration and name and address changes being the most frequent applications. Car owners stand to save both time and money, as the online vehicle registration cost is 16.30 euros, contrasted with 30.60 euros at physical stations; deregistration costs 2.70 euros instead of 16.80 euros at traditional counters.

Federal Transport Minister Volker Wissing (FDP) emphasizes the procedure as a vital step towards modernizing administration and easing the lives of citizens, officials, and businesses. He strongly encourages digitally detached communities to adopt this service, appealing for its widespread promotion.

Despite the numerous benefits of online vehicle registration, such as time and cost savings, only 42.9% of Saxony-Anhalt's districts offer this service on the Internet. Conversely, users in regions like Hildburghausen in Thuringia complete over 20.4% of their registrations digitally, showing a stark contrast in digital adoption.
