In Bavaria, a 32-year-old individual faces a prison sentence of three years for orchestrating 45 smuggling journeys.
Hailing from North Rhine-Westfalen, the main suspect stands accused of masterminding the illicit transportation of approximately 230 immigrants, using vehicles, across borders from Austria and Slovakia. The destinations? Germany, the Netherlands, France, and more. Reportedly, each trip fetched thousands in earnings.
This individual dished out trafficking directives to drivers or go-betweens, who then roped in additional drivers for the job. On Tuesday, the court ordered the confiscation of around 95,000 Euros from the illegal operations of the accused. He's been locked up since July 2023 due to investigative detention.
The jury found him guilty of organized and profit-driven human trafficking. The prosecution wants four years in jail, but the defense advocates for three. The judgment isn't final yet, as legal appeals can still be lodged against it.
