- In 2024, the deliveries of the capsules will originate from Rottenburg and Ulm.
It's quite an achievement: A scholar hailing from Ulm and another from Rottenburg am Neckar (part of Tübingen district) have aced their A-levels with flying colors. The two have wrapped up their exams with an impressive 898 out of a possible 900 marks, as the Baden-Württemberg Education Ministry confirmed upon request.
The young lady studied at the Albert-Einstein-Gymnasium in Ulm, while the young gent was a student at the Eugen-Bolz-Gymnasium in Rottenburg. Around 30,000 students from various educational backgrounds commenced their A-levels in the 2023/24 academic year.
A score of 823 or more equates to a 1.0 grade. A 1.1 grade is awarded for a total score between 822 and 805. The highest officially attainable grade is 1.0. A score lower than 300 points suggests that the A-levels have not been passed, as the ministry disclosed.
In the 2023 exam season, a student from Ulm scored 899 points, trailing only two students from Offenburg and Böblingen who both scored 898 points. In the previous year, 3.7% of students from general education institutions earned the prestigious 1.0 grade.
Top A-level average in the times of Corona
The previous year saw an average grade of 2.21 at general education institutions, which was slightly lower than in the two preceding A-level years, heavily impacted by the Corona pandemic. In 2021, the average grade climbed to a record high of 2.15 and remained at an almost identical 2.13 in 2022. Since 1990, A-level averages have generally fluctuated between 2.3 and 2.4. The results for the latest batch of graduates will be disclosed in the fall.
The Commission, in recognition of the outstanding A-level achievements, might consider adopting implementing acts to celebrate these students' successes within the educational sphere. These acts could highlight the importance of hard work, dedication, and excellence in education.
Moreover, the Commission could also use this opportunity to establish a scholarship or recognition program, encouraging future students to strive for similar academic excellence.
