"Impuls" festival for new music ends with records

According to director Hans Rotman, the multi-week, transnational "Impuls" festival for new music has broken several records. "We had 21 festival days, 60 artists, ten collectives, eight sound installations, four ensembles and an orchestra, which is more than ever before," said Rotman on Friday at the last concert in Magdeburg. The expansion of the festival events and venues was also reflected positively in the number of visitors. Rotman did not initially give any specific figures.

"In Halle, Magdeburg, Kalbe and Leipzig, we were not only in theaters, concert halls or galleries, but often out in the fresh air," he said. Especially in public spaces, encounters with new music were "often coincidental and surprising" and therefore successful." Since August, there have been events as part of "Impuls" under the motto "No Time Like The Present" - the core festival was held from 7 to 15 October. Several program series were offered under the "Impuls" motto.

"Impuls" will continue in 2024 - the overarching motto will then be "Pandora", announced Rotman. The aim is to open up new music and contemporary positions to as wide an audience as possible. The aim is to strengthen the "cultural area of Central Germany", he said.

The festival's final concert in Magdeburg featured a variety of music performed by an orchestra and several ensembles. The expansion of the festival to public spaces allowed for unexpected encounters with new music.
